General Counsel (Voluntary Position)
Sahel Sra serves as General Counsel (in a voluntary capacity) at Diamond Dreams Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to introducing and promoting baseball in India. With a deep commitment to justice, equality, and community empowerment, Sahel brings extensive legal expertise and a passion for advocating on behalf of individuals and causes that make a difference.
Currently, Sahel is an attorney with the Sikh Coalition, the largest Sikh American civil rights organization in the United States. In this role, Sahel represents clients on a wide array of civil rights issues, focusing particularly on securing accommodations for Sikh articles of faith, advocating for victims of hate crimes and school bullying, and challenging discriminatory practices across both public and private sectors. Sahel also supervises a team of attorneys, fostering collaboration and ensuring effective representation for clients facing civil rights challenges.
Prior to joining the Sikh Coalition, Sahel gained invaluable experience as a Staff Attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where she honed her legal acumen and gained invaluable insight into appellate advocacy. She began her legal career at Covington & Burling LLP, a leading law firm in Washington, D.C., where she developed a strong foundation in litigation and investigation.
With her extensive background in civil rights law and her dedication to community empowerment, Sahel is excited to contribute to Diamond Dreams, helping to foster a love for baseball and create opportunities for youth in India.
